It’s hard being overweight. It’s hard to lose weight. Pick your hard.

I don’t typically react to inspirational quotes, but I like this one.
Desktop lunch review - FAIL
I should have eaten lunch at my desk. I should have eaten my Lean Cuisine chicken with almonds and rice.
But my husband called and wanted to take me out to lunch, so….buh-bye frozen food. Hello, Fork in the City.
FITC is one of my favorite local restaurants. Wood fired pizzas, burgers, pasta. Fun atmosphere and only minutes from my office. Not that I ever get anything different for...

Desktop lunch review - brunch-ish kind of day
I love breakfast foods.
Eggs, salty meats, toasted breads, sweet and sticky pancakes, fruit, yogurt and the elixir of energy that stirs my ambition and quiets my demons, coffee.
While I often have breakfast for dinner, I never really think of it for lunch. That changes today.
Behold the Jimmy Dean D-Lights Canadian bacon, egg white and cheese sandwich on a honey wheat muffin sandwich. This is a...

Desktop lunch review- back to the Boot
Today is yet another attempt at Italian food - this time with a cream sauce.
Now I do not delude myself into believing for even one moment that this Lean Cuisine Shrimp Alfredo will resemble the rich, luscious, creamy, cheesy delightful Alfredo sauces found in even the most pedistrian Italian-inspired chain restaurant.
I set my standards very low. As far as the sauce goes, anything more than...
Desktop lunch review - pasta and little else worth...
Today’s culinary exploration takes us to Italy, in what I imagine is the processed food world’s riff on authentic Mediterranean cuisine. Clearly the folks who work at Healthy Choice’s test kitchens are like me and have never actually been to Italy.
This is Lemon Herb Chicken, a dish described on the box as “chicken tenderloins with whole grain pasta, cherry tomatoes &...

Spa day, bitches
am a fan of a local salon/day spa on Facebook and this morning the owner posted that the salon had a lot of canceled appointments due to the the snow. So services are on sale: Half off pedicure, 20 percent off other services, etc.
For the record, there is only a couple of inches of snow on the ground, but this is the South and I hate to drive in it too, so who am I to call anyone Wimpy...
The good and the bad
The good news is that my leg is healing well and the ultra sound shows no deep vein thrombosis, which means I am not going to die.
The good news is that follow up treatment should clear up all the unsightly spider veins on my leg that were caused by the formerly gushing broken vein deep in my thigh.
The bad news, because there is always bad news, is that treatment that will make my leg look...
If only I had creative and practical talent
I would love to invent a weapon that hurled warm water and soap at any individual attempting to enter my office wearing an unacceptable amount of cologne and/or perfume. This would of course require a meter that would detect the offending odor and the commence the hurling of the cleansing liquid.
I am guessing after the first trip in, people would dose themselves in a more controlled manner and/or...
Big start to a small day
Special K cereal, blackberries and pecans, skim milk. An English muffin with a tiny sliver of butter and whole fruit jam.
Very filling, maybe too much. No desire for lunch. Trying to only eat when I am really hungry —if I can figure out when that is— and then to make better choices most of the time.
My only other goals for today are to not work very hard (shouldn’t be a...
A disqus throw
My dear darling friend Chibi suggested I add Disqus to my Tumblr blog so people could comment on my posts. I Googled how to do it, but borked my blog when I tried to add the HTML code.
Why, you may ask?
Because I am a techo-geek-poser and a pretty shitty one at that. FUUUUUUCKKKK!
Anyway, I chose a new minimalist theme for the blog that supports Disqus, so this post would be my test to see if...
Binge eating and/or why I am an asshole
I was feeling pretty crappy most of the day, but I had a shitload of work to do, so I plugged away at my desk and nourished myself with only a granola bar.
I left work early and nibbled a few crackers to hold me over until dinner.
Husband brings home a pizza and I proceed to devour it like a starving zombie in the brain surgery wing of a hospital.
Now I am so sick I could cry. Among other...
Lack of transportation saves three dogs
My husband drives a small SUV. I drive a VW Beetle. He is at work right now and I am home.
If I had access to his vehicle right now, I would be driving our three, large, ill-behaved mutts to the pound.
They should be grateful I opted for fuel-efficiency.
Guilty pleasure
I am completely down with the whole idea of eating locally grown produce. I want to support small farms and I wholeheartedly support the movement away from chemicals and pesticides in food.
That said, I bought this gorgeous carton of blackberries at Kroger on Thursday — a product of Mexico, thank you CoO labeling — and they are AH-mazing.
They are sweet and fresh and tatse like...
